Why is there a hole on the hook of a small tape measure?


This hole is designed to secure the tape measure. When using a Lion‑brand tape measure to measure relatively long distances and there’s no one around to help, simply hammer a nail into the starting point and hook the tape measure’s loop over the nail—allowing one person to take accurate measurements with ease.
